Welcome to the Year of the Book: a year of shared stories

Books have a unique way of bringing people together. They spark conversation, inspire imagination, and invite us to expand our knowledge of the world and each other.

In 2026, the Fulton County Library System is putting that power front and center with the Year of the Book, a year dedicated to celebrating how reading influences learning, creativity, and connection across our community. The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation is excited to support this initiative, helping make it possible for readers of all ages to participate.

The Year of the Book invites you to challenge your reading and reconnect with stories, ideas, and community. Throughout the year, books will anchor shared experiences across the library, welcoming readers of all ages and interests to take part.

Each month introduces a new theme designed to spark curiosity and shared discovery among readers throughout Fulton County. Library branches will bring each theme to life by highlighting a selected book, or small group of books, creating a shared reading experience that connects the community. From library visits and programs to discovering your next read, there are countless ways to participate and connect in ways that feel fun, flexible, and accessible.

There are many ways to participate in the Year of the Book, including:

  • Joining reading challenges through Beanstack

  • Exploring specially selected titles that highlight each month’s theme

  • Taking part in creative and interactive activities throughout the year

  • Attending Year of the Book programs hosted 34 branches across Fulton County

The Year of the Book is just getting started, and there’s a place for everyone. Whether you read daily or occasionally, prefer audiobooks or print, or are rediscovering your love of reading after some time away, you’re invited to be part of the celebration.
