One book. One bestselling author. One unforgettable afternoon.

one book one read 2026

On September 19, readers celebrated the grand finale of the 2026 Summer Reading program.   Atlanta’s Central Library Auditorium welcomed a lively crowd for this year’s One Book, One Read event featuring bestselling author Jason Rekulak, author of The Last One at the Wedding, and award-winning journalist and news anchor Karyn Greer.

The two had a lively conversation about Rekulak’s novel, his writing process, and the twists and turns that kept readers guessing, followed by questions from the audience. As the discussion progressed, one theme took center stage: To what lengths will a parent go to protect their child, even when they know or suspect that the child has done something morally and/or criminally wrong? And when criminal acts are perpetrated by a group from varied classes, what are the odds that the wealthy can buy their freedom and those from the lower classes will pay with their freedom?

The conversation revealed that when talking about morality, criminal behavior, and class, it can be easier to discuss these issues in regard to a work of fiction than nonfiction. So while truth is often stranger than fiction, fiction is sometimes an easier way to get to the truth.

We love seeing what happens when a great book gives a community something to talk about. One Book, One Read creates opportunities for readers across Fulton County to discover a story together, share their perspectives, and connect with one another.

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation is proud to help make programs like this possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s event such a success!
