“Libraries have been my constant companions through every stage of life, opening doors I never knew existed.

It started with Ms. Bronleewe—”Ms. B” to us kids—who read aloud to my elementary class and helped us discover our first favorite books. In middle school, I felt the thrill of independence, biking to the public library to choose my own adventures. High school brought refuge in the library with our librarian, Jan Hoberecht. There I encountered one of the school’s first computers and wrote my very first BASIC program. My college library and the adjacent archive gave me my first taste of real research as I wrote two senior theses.

When I became a parent, our local public libraries became a treasure trove of books and educational videos that sparked my daughters’ early love of reading and learning. Then, a part-time job as a reference assistant at a university launched a 30+ year career in research libraries that continues today.

Now, as chair of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation, I have the chance to give back to the institutions that gave me so much. Libraries don’t just house books – they nurture dreams, provide refuge, spark curiosity, and offer opportunities that can change the trajectory of a life.

That’s why I’m asking for your support. When you contribute to the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation, you’re not just supporting libraries—you’re investing in the next generation of dreamers, learners, and leaders who will discover their own life-changing moments within these walls. Give today.
