Mark your calendars for April 3, 2024 – #LibraryGivingDay – a day dedicated to celebrating and supporting the heart of our communities: public libraries. #LibraryGivingDay is a one-day online fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their library system. Your support will strengthen the programs, services and materials provided by your local library. 

There are over 9,000 public libraries across the country, each providing information and connectivity, strengthening local economies, creating healthier communities and advancing youth education. Nationally, public libraries:

  • Provide access to the internet: 100% of public libraries offer access to the internet 
  • Strengthen local economies: 73% of public libraries assist patrons with job applications and interviewing skills; 68% aid individuals in find employment opportunities
  • Create healthier communities: 77% of public libraries offer online health resources; 59% provide programs for finding health insurance
  • Advance youth education: 95% provide online homework help and summer reading programs

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation is the advocate and fundraising champion of the Fulton County Library System, providing critical funding support for all 34 branches. Contributions from foundations, corporations and individuals like you support innovation and community programs above and beyond what public funding can provide. In 2023, the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation supported a variety of programming in partnership with the Fulton County Library System including:

  • Summer Reading Program: 10,152 kids participated in the Fulton County Library’s Summer Reading program. Together, they read 67,085 books. This program prevents “summer slide” and makes reading fun!
  • One Book, One Read: 650 adults engaged in the One Book, One Read community read-along of The Personal Librarian, book clubs and events
  • Professional Development: 265+ Librarian System librarians and staff received professional development at the annual Staff Development Day at Central Library
